Danish bunker group Monjasa has sold its domestic terminal at Skagen after it decided to redeploy a tanker to the UK.
Monjasa told TradeWinds it was moving its 3,600-dwt bunker tanker Fredericia (built 2008) from the port, also known as Skaw, to its English Channel base in Portland, where it is experiencing increasing demand as an alternative to the massive fuelling market made up of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerp.
As a result, the company accepted an "attractive offer" to sell the terminal to domestic rival Bunker One Holding.
"Matching supply and demand remains the core of Monjasa’s services," Monjasa added. "We are pleased to pass on a well-run oil terminal."
Fredericia is one of three Monjasa tankers now based in Portland.
Foothold expanded
Bunker One said the move strengthens its foothold in Scandinavia.
Its sister company Unioil Supply took over the facility at the northern tip of Denmark on 1 June.
Bunker One said the terminal fits perfectly with its storage facilities in Copenhagen and Aarhus.
"With a shorter distance between customers and storage facilities, Bunker One will be able to increase efficiency and agility," the company added.
Monjasa has operated Skagen for the last five years.
"We have had a very positive dialogue and process with Monjasa about taking over the very well-run terminal in Skagen and we are proud of closing a deal that benefits all parties," said Bunker One managing director Carsten Klausen.
"We are committed to further develop this very important Scandinavian bunkering hub."
The oil terminal consists of eight tanks with a combined capacity of 42,000 cbm.
