Italian classification society RINA has acquired software company Logimatic Solutions in a move that it said will expand its marine digital services and capability.
RINA did not disclose how much it is paying for the Danish company, which has an annual turnover of €6m ($7m), and employs 50 people.
Logimatic is best known in the marine industry for its ship management software Sertica, which is used by shipping companies such as Euronav, DFDS, UltraShip and Lauritzen Kosan, according to the company's website. It has been installed on 1,400 vessels worldwide.
Sertica covers the fleet maintenance, procurement and health, safety, quality and Enviroment (HSQE ) aspects of ship management. The service will now be provided under RINA following the full integration of Logimatic.
Logimatic is also involved in the energy and industrial sectors in which RINA also operates.
RINA chief executive Ugo Salerno said the acquisition is a step forward in the expansion of the classification society’s digital offering.
Perfect fit
He also said the move puts RINA in a stronger position in the northern European market to balance its traditional strength in the south.
“The Logimatic Solutions business is a perfect fit for us, as it complements our technical offer of digital applications and improves our market positioning in terms of geographic proximity to our customer base,” Salerno said.
Logimatic Solutions chief executive Lars Riisberg said the acquisition would help his company grow.
"I truly believe that our products and organisation deserve this opportunity to grow further with a strong and global company,” he said.
