Vessel-vetting company RightShip has unveiled plans to open an office in Singapore as it continues to expand its Asian footprint.

The office will be home to the company's chief product officer, Chris Saunders as well as two of the company's recent additions: chief strategy officer Tarun Mehrotra and chief commercial officer Gurpreet Singh.

RightShip said the office can host 28 employees, with a "view to expanding recruitment in the region further".

Saunders said Singapore was the "heart and soul of the Asia-Pacific maritime industry" and that it was the "right place" for RightShip.

"It is home to the shipping companies themselves, but also the lenders, insurers, shipowners and managers, and cargo holders and charterers that are essential to the sector," he said.

"It boasts some of the world's most advanced port infrastructure with deep understanding of dry and wet bulk, and container shipping."

RightShip has described its new office in Singapore as an "innovation hub to deliver zero-harm solutions".

It added that the new office aims to build on extended collaboration with and support from local Singaporean organisations, including the recent MOU signed with the Singapore Maritime Institute to cooperate on research into maritime artificial intelligence.

RightShip chief executive Steen Lund said: "For an organisation striving to create a zero-harm maritime industry using digital technology, Singapore is a natural second home.

"The government here recognises the opportunity and responsibility it has for international leadership in this respect, as evidenced from the launch of its Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation earlier this year."

The new office is the latest in a series of moves RightShip has made to expand its presence in Asia: opening representative offices in Shanghai, China, in July 2021, followed by Hiroshima, Japan, in November 2021.
