A fire on a tank farm on one of Singapore’s offshore islands has been brought under control, local firefighers report.

The fire broke out at a fuel oil storage tank in Tankstore’s Pulau Busing terminal on Tuesday evening, according to reports.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at about 17:50 and immediately responded to the incident.

“After approximately six hours of intense firefighting operations, the raging oil storage tank fire was extinguished,” SCDF said in a Facebook posting.

A total of 31 firefighting and support vehicles and 128 SCDF personnel were involved in the operations, it added.

"Radiant heat from the affected oil storage tank poses a major challenge to the firefighters as they move forward while maintaining a safe distance," SCDF in an update during the operations.

"Despite the challenge, SCDF firefighters and members of CERT (Company Emergency Response Team) are still pressing on."

The SCDF-led operations were supported by a few related agencies such as the Police Coast Guard, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, Republic of Singapore Navy and National Environment Agency.

Pulau Busing is one of the islands off the southern coast of Singapore and is home to a number of oil and chemical storage facilities.

There were no reports of any casualties.
