A bulk carrier was fired upon Wednesday in the Bight of Bonny yet no one was hurt as the vessel sped away.
Two or three men in two speed boats approached the ship on its starboard beam and fired towards it, according to a bulletin from the Maritime Domain Awareness for Trade-Gulf of Guinea.
The ship was attacked at 0615 UTC in the body of water that extends from South Nigeria's Niger River delta to North Gabon.
It was positioned 40 nautical miles south of Nigeria's Bonny Fairway Buoy.
The ship, not named in the report, increased speed and the speed boats turned away.
The vessel and crew are safe.
Mariners are advised to exercise caution in this area.
