A crewman has been airlifted from a Greek reefer following a five-metre fall from a crane.

The UK coast guard released a video of the helicopter rescue from the 627,986-cbf Nederland Reefer (built 1991) in Falmouth on Thursday.

The seafarer had suffered serious injuries in the accident and was taken to hospital, the Falmouth Packet reported.

A coastguard spokesperson said: "Once on scene, the gentleman was quickly located on the deck of the vessel with serious injuries.

"Team members worked closely with lifeboat crew members to stabilise and package the casualty ready for transport."

The vessel is listed as operated by Chartworld Shipping of Greece.
