A seafarer has been injured in an explosion on a Korean tanker in Japan.

The Sankei website reported that the blast occurred during work on the 3,600-dwt Golden Sunny Hana (built 2017) off Oita on 8 April.

An Indonesian crewman, 28, suffered a burn to his leg and was taken to hospital.

The vessel was en route from South Korea to Chiba. An investigation has begun.

The ship is operated by Hana Marine of Seoul. AIS data shows it as not under command near Oita on Monday.
