An LNG carrier controlled by GasLog grounded off the Mediterranean island of Crete over the weekend.

A spokesman for GasLog confirms that the 155,000-cbm GasLog Saratoga (built 2014) ran aground while approaching Heraklion late on the evening of 9 November outside the port's breakwater.

The GasLog Saratoga was in a laden condition and was moving to rendezvous with a port vessel to offload refuse accumulated during the voyage so far.

The vessel contacted with the soft mud seabed at a very low speed.

He said: "Tugs were called to free the vessel, which was achieved very early Saturday morning on 10 November."

GasLog said the vessel was moved to an anchorage where it was inspected.

The company said: "There was no damage to the hull. There was no release of cargo. There was no pollution and nobody was injured in the incident."

The vessel was inspected by Class and Port State Control and both released the vessel to continue its voyage. The ship sailed on the evening of 11 November.

GasLog said no repairs to the ship will be required.

"An investigation into the incident will be conducted, and we thank the port authorities for their response and help," the company said.
