A small amount of fuel was spilled in India after a tanker hose ruptured.

The incident involving about 1cbm of furnace oil from the 40,000-dwt Coral Stars (built 2004) happened on Sunday at Kamarajar port, Press Trust of India reported.

Operator International Andromeda of Monaco told TradeWinds: "Local authorities estimate the oil spillage at about 1cbm.

"Shore hose parted from shore installation and obviously discharge was immediately stopped. Cleaning up is under progress."

The coast guard said it has issued a notice to the master to clean up the spill.

The accident occurred during offloading, the report said.

The coast guard notice also applied to charterer Atlantic Shipping.

Six Indian coast guard ships were involved in containing the oil.

Although most of the spilled fuel has been recovered, traces were still being cleaned up or dispersed, the coast guard said.
