An Indian trainee electrical officer has gone missing from a VLGC off Madagascar.
Aswin Kumar, 24, was last seen on the 84,000-cbm Shahrastani (built 2016) on the evening of 29 March, after he went to the engine room to read manuals.
The Petredec vessel is managed by Anglo-Eastern Shipmanagement, which said in a letter to his parents, obtained by India Today, that a thorough search was carried out on board by colleagues, but in vain.
The vessel was then turned around to retrace its course.
Anglo-Eastern also informed the Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centres of Australia, Mauritius and La Reunion, with a search ongoing.
Kumar joined the ship in China on 6 March.
