Navigation on a key waterway for Argentina’s grain exports has reportedly been restored after a bulker was refloated in the mouth of the River Plate.

The 58,642-dwt Glad Mark (built 2012) ran into trouble on Tuesday afternoon at KM 188, according to Buenos Aires-based maritime agency Nabsa.

However, the company has now confirmed to TradeWinds that the Panama-flagged bulker has been refloated with the assistance of tugs.

“Navigation in the main channel was re-instated for all vessels as from 22:30 hrs local time on 5 September,” Nabsa said in a circular.

The Japanese-controlled bulker was reportedly proceeding inbound to San Nicolas Port when she went aground in the Punta Indio Channel.

Unconfirmed reports say the grounding was caused after the ship suffered some form of technical failure of its main engine.

The Glad Mark is said to be classed by ClassNK and insured by the Standard P&I Club, according to Clarksons.
