The Liberian International Shipping & Corporate Registry used its 70th anniversary party in Singapore to announce major changes in its management line-up there.

Managing director Benson Peretti is returning to the US to assume the new role of senior vice president and director of Asian operations. Replacing him as boss in Singapore is Sau Weng Tang, a newcomer to the registry.

Peretti told guests at Zafferano — a popular Italian restaurant inside the Ocean Financial Centre — that he had first come to the Lion City in search of its famous spicy food.

He set up the Liberian Registry’s main Asian base there in 2012. Since then, the organisation has expanded to include seven other offices across the region.

Although Tang is a newcomer to the registry, he is no stranger to the world of flag states and ship registries, having spent time with Lloyd’s Register and Royal Bank of Scotland, and occupied senior positions in the marine insurance world.
