Greek owner Meadway Shipping & Trading is cooperating fully with Polish authorities following two suspected cases of malaria on one of its bulkers.

The operator told TradeWinds an investigation in Swinoujscie to ascertain the cause of death of one crewman, a 40-year-old Filipino, on the 63,000-dwt Ilektra (built 2017) is ongoing.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased and we are offering them our full support at this difficult time," it added.

"No further statement can be made until the results of the post-mortem are known and the family have been informed."

It said the second seafarer affected is in hospital undergoing treatment.

"He remains in good spirits and is expected to return to the vessel in the next few days. The remaining crewmembers are carrying out their usual duties onboard the Ilektra."

The vessel arrived from Liberia, reports said.
