A missing NCL seafarer has had a miraculous escape after falling from a cruiseship off Cuba and drifting in the sea for 22 hours.

CNN reported that the unnamed 33-year-old plunged from the 146,000-gt Norwegian Getaway (built 2014) 28 miles off Pinar del Rio on Saturday, according to the US Coast Guard (USCG).

A USCG Coast Guard plane searched for him without success.

The next day, a hotel steward on the 110,000-gt Carnival Glory (built 2003) spotted the man in the water at around 1pm, 21 miles north of Cuba, Carnival Cruise Line said.

The vessel reversed and lowered a lifeboat to bring him aboard.

The seafarer is being treated on Carnival Glory.

"This is nothing short of miraculous," said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

"Kudos to the Carnival Glory team for this amazing effort to rescue a fellow seafarer."

The USCG said it scoured more than 1,630 square miles of ocean during the search.
