The lower Mississippi River new New Orleans was reopened Friday following a grounding earlier in the day.

The grounding of the 114,248-dwt Anglo Alexandria (built 2011) created a queue of more than 50 ships waiting to enter or exit the river.

The situation was compounded by dense fog in the area over the last few days which resulted in more vessels than normal being delayed.

The US Coast Guard (USCG) said in a statement that it had reopened the waterway to vessels with a draft of 30 feet or less.

The UK-flagged Anglo Alexandria has been moved out of the channel, the USCG said. There are no reports of pollution or injuries.

The ship is owned by newcomer Anglo Investments and manager is Graig Ship Management.

The cause of the incident is said to be under investigation. The ship is insured by the North P&I Club.
