Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) is joining the gender revolution with the appointment of its first female chief executive.
Quah Ley Hoon is set to head up the maritime regulator effective 1 January 2019, but will join on 1 November as chief executive (designate).
She will take over from present incumbent Andrew Tan who will is retiring from the Administrative Service at the end of the year to pursue new challenges.
Quah, 42, holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Pantheon-Sorbonne in France as well as a MBA from Switzerland’s International Institute for Management Development (IMD Business School).
Singapore’s Ministry of Transport said it would “like to put on record” its appreciation to Tan for his “significant contributions” in his five years as the chief executive of the MPA.
Established on 2 February 1996, the MPA was given the mission to develop Singapore as a premier global hub port and international maritime centre (IMC).
