The Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) has raised the security level for its ships following Thursday attacks on two tankers in the Gulf of Oman.
“Due to the Fujairah attacks on 12 May and these latest attacks, we urge Norwegian ships to exercise extreme caution in the region,” it said.
Based on Thursday’s incidents, even though the background for the attacks is not completely clear, the NMA has advised all ships to keep a safe distance from Iranian waters.
It has also raised the security level to ISPS 2 for Norwegian ships in the area delimited by the positions between N25 o and N28 o and between E54 o and E58 o.
“The situation in the affected area may change, and shipowners and masters are encouraged to follow the development through Norwegian Shipowner’s Association closely,” the NMA said.
“NMA will continue to monitor the situation, any changes will be immediately updated through our website.”
Just last week the NMA decided to adjust the security level in Fujairah to ISPS1 and advised shipowners to carefully consider measures from ISPS2.
