The Paris MOU port state control body has barred three cargoships after they failed their third safety checks in three years.

Two are flagged in Moldova and one in Comoros, registers which are all on the organisation's black list. They were all banned for three months.

The 1,600-dwt Elg (built 1983), operated by Adoken Shipping of Turkey, was held in Gibraltar for six days with 11 deficiencies.

These included faults with emergency lighting and rescue boats.

The 1,500-dwt My Filiz (built 1984), operated by My Ship Group of Turkey, was detained in Constanta, Romania, for two days with 13 deficiencies. One of these was the crew's lack of familiarity with the bridge.

Ukrainian manager Valship's 5,300-dwt Volgo-Don 5066 (built 1977) meanwhile was held for six days in Russia's Rostov-on-Don with 10 faults, including three relating to safety of navigation.
