A car left parked on a UK beach has been declared a hazard to shipping.

Bideford Coastguard issued a warning about the mystery vehicle after it became submerged at high tide at Appledore, Devon Live reported.

Appledore Lifeboat Station also warned on Monday: “There is a car stuck right in the middle of the deep channel at the moment.

It added: "Apparently it does drift up and down the channel with the tide so at high tide could be further upriver.”

A coastguard spokesman said: “We would like to remind people of the danger of the soft mud and sand of the Taw and Torridge Estuaries and that you should never try to cross on foot or by vehicle."
