A Thorco Shipping cargoship that grounded on a remote Pacific reef has been towed into Papeete, French Polynesia.
The 16,900-dwt Thorco Lineage (built 2014) got stuck on Raroia on 24 June.
It has now reached the Polynesian port, where a US tug will arrive to tow it to Australia for repairs, La Depeche website reported.
"We have been able to avoid the spill of cargo and fuel from this ship into the ocean. And it is a success," said Rene Bidal, high commissioner of French Polynesia.
The towing operation, involving two tugs, hit a snag last week when the tow cable broke, leaving the vessel adrift, according to a French navy statement.
The vessel had been towed a safe distance from shore and was in 1,000 metres of water about 1.5 miles away from land.
The ship grounded en route from the US to Australia with a cargo of zinc.
Local reports said it had developed engine problems.
The owner is listed as Phoenix Carriers of Denmark.
No injuries to the 18-strong crew have been reported. No pollution has been spotted either.
