A total of 198 containers are likely to be declared a total loss on Hapag-Lloyd's fire-hit Yantian Express.
The 7,150-teu boxship (built 2002) suffered a blaze on 3 January off Canada, forcing crew to evacuate.
It has now berthed in Freeport, Bahamas, for inspections and cargo discharge.
Japanese container line ONE, which has boxes on board, said "significant headway" had been made on safety, logistical, operational and other aspects arising from the casualty.
"Preparations have been underway with the local authorities, salvors and other interested parties to arrange for the discharge of all containers in the forward most portion of the vessel, in which the fire occurred," it added.
General average adjuster Richards Hogg Lindley (RHL) said its surveyor has identified 198 containers that were most likely a total loss due to the fire.
He has also identified an additional 460 containers that were stored in the affected area that require inspection.
It is not yet known when discharge will begin.
