Chilean navy divers have confirmed there have been no breaches in the fuel tank of the sunken wellboat Seikongen.

The 2,500-dwt live fish carrier (built 2017) went down off Puerto Montt on Wednesday.

It is carrying 67,000 litres of bunkers, plus a cargo of 37,000 salmon.

The fish remain sealed in their tanks, but have died due to a lack of oxygen.

Booms have been placed around the ship, but the only spill has been 600 litres of fuel from two drums that were on the deck.

The vessel suffered damage and began taking on water during loading.

Seikongen's master informed authorities and ordered an evacuation of the 12-person crew.

The vessel is partially submerged in 10 metres of water, 200 metres from shore.

It is operated by CPT Empresas Maritimas of Chile. The company has been in talks over a salvage operation.
