A deputy court sheriff has died after falling from a ladder in South Africa during the attempted arrest of a vessel.
Port Elizabeth police said Henry Kemp, 42, was killed on Monday in an eight-metre plunge as he was climbing to execute a warrant, according to News 24.
Police spokesperson Andre Beetge said Kemp had boarded a pilot boat at the Port of Ngqura to reach a 33,000-gt Liberian flagged ship, which was four miles offshore.
His body has been recovered.
Beetge said he could not comment on the reason for the arrest. "Unfortunately, that you will need to find out from the court," he told reporters.
An inquest has been opened.
