A Sincere Industrial-owned handysize bulker has been caught up in a carbon monoxide poisoning incident at a port in New Zealand.
Six workers were hospitalized on Monday night after the incident aboard the 28,191-dwt Nord Yilan (built 2010) at Napier Port.
A turbo system on the engine of a digger/loader failed and billowed exhaust smoke through the hold area, according to local media reports.
Regulator Maritime New Zealand has confirmed that an investigation will be carried out and that it was likely to be several weeks before it was concluded.
However, the six men were all later confirmed as being released from hospital by early Tuesday afternoon.
“We can confirm that at about 8pm on Monday night, an incident occurred on the log vessel, Nord Yilan, berthed at Napier Port,” the port said in a statement.
“The incident involved staff from stevedoring company, ISO, who are employed by log exporter, Ernslaw One.
“Emergency services responded to the incident and some ISO staff were hospitalised."
