Navigational safety in the Singapore Strait is not threatened by the wreck of the supply vessel that sank there in February, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has said.
The Dominica-flagged, 49-gt Ocean Cooper 2 (built 2015) capsized in the westbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme around three nautical miles from the Pedra Branca lighthouse on 14 February.
The MPA said it has completed a hydrographic survey of the wreck site, which found the sunken vessel lies 41 metres below the sea's surface.
"This is significantly deeper than the deepest draught of transiting vessels (which is 22 metres below the sea surface)," the port authority said in a statement.
"The MPA has determined that the wreck does not pose a risk to the safety of navigation and will not affect shipping traffic in the area."
The authority said it will update its nautical charts to indicate the location of the wreck, and issue a notice to mariners to keep the maritime community updated.
