The sunken wellboat Seikongen has been moved upright off Chile.

Salvor Ardent has completed the first stage of the operation to refloat the vessel, the Cooperativa daily said.

More than 100 personnel and three tugs were involved.

The ship still contains 1,000 cbm of rotting salmon.

The Chilean navy said the salvage may be completed in another 20 days, with the hull's integrity due to be checked.

The 2,500-dwt live fish carrier (built 2017) went down last October off Puerto Montt.

It suffered damage and began taking on water during loading.

The ship was partially submerged in 10 metres of sea, 200 metres from shore.

It had been lying on its starboard side.

A towing operation is planned to the port of San Vicente.

The vessel's 67,000 litres of oil have been removed, while a large part of the cargo of salmon has also been taken from the vessel.

The owner is CPT Empresa Maritima of Chile.
