An intrepid Dane has become the first person to paddle across the 137-kilometre (85-mile) Skagerrak channel between Denmark and Norway while on a stand-up paddleboard.

Casper Steinfath took 19 hours to cross the dangerous currents between Klitmoller and Kristiansand.

Footage of the crossing can be seen on Casper’s Facebook page, courtesy of a new communications system onboard the offshore support vessel Arriver, which tracked his progress.

NSSL Global’s FusionIP system, which combines VSAT and LTE cellular connectivity, offered an uninterrupted satellite phone link, which Casper used to send fans and family photos, videos and messages.

It also supported ship-to-shore data communications and allowed an onboard TV production crew from Denmark’s TV2 to film his efforts.

Casper is a world champion in the surf discipline of stand-up paddling. It was his second attempt to cross the Skagerrak. To see more visit: en-gb.facebook.com/Caspersteinfath/
