The US Coast Guard (USCG) has been called to evacuate injured seafarers from vessels in two separate cases over the Easter holidays.

On Monday the USCG in Miami medevaced a 27-year-old man from a Hoegh Autoliners car carrier 14 miles east of Lake Worth Inlet.

It received a call on VHF-FM marine-band radio from a crewmember aboard the 8,500-ceu Hoegh Trotter (built 2016) stating a crewmember was suffering from concussion-like symptoms.

A USCG vessel was dispatched to the Norwegian-flagged vessel and the man was taken ashore and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Earlier in the weekend the USCG unit in New Orleans were called on to medevac an injured seafarer from a chemical tanker about 118m off Louisiana.

A crewman aboard the US Jones Act 49,172-dwt tanker Garden State (built 2016) was said to have been suffering from vision loss in one eye.

A USCG helicopter was dispatched to the American Petroleum Tankers vessel and the injured seafarer was transferred ashore for treatment.
