The US Coast Guard is warning ships in the eastern Mediterranean and Red seas that their GPS could cut out.
The agency said in an advisory issued Thursday afternoon that they have received reports of "significant" GPS interference by ships and aircraft near Port Said, the Suez Canal, around Cyprus. Similar interference was reported last month in the Red Sea near Jeddah.
"This interference is resulting in lost or otherwise altered GPS signals affecting bridge navigation, GPS-based timing and communications equipment," said the advisory, which encouraged caution in the region.
GPS interruptions should be reported to the Coast Guard's Navigation Center. The agency encourages mariners to log the location, time and date and duration and screenshots from or photographs of the affected equipment.
