A merchant ship has been hijacked off the Republic of Congo, according to a report.
Piracy reporting body Maritime Domain Awareness for Trade – Gulf of Guinea (MDAT-GoG) said two vessels were raided on Monday afternoon, 102 nautical miles off Pointe Noire.
One was later reported as safe, but one was taken.
MDAT-GoG told TradeWinds that investigations were ongoing and no further information was currently available.
The organisation receives reports, shares updates and provides guidance on vessel operating patterns and security risks with the Gulf of Guinea maritime community.
The original report is said to have come from the Norwegian Shipowners’ Mutual War Risks Insurance Association from its Intelligence & Operations Centre (IOC) in Oslo.
The incident was then followed up by reports from the IMB and Lloyds.
It was reported yesterday that a Peter Dohle containership was attacked off Nigeria and 11 crew abducted.
