A post-panamax bulk carrier collided into a pier at Argentina's San Lorenzo port.

The 92,500-dwt Ocean Treasure (built 2010) made contact with the port's Terminal 6 berth while conducting berthing manoeuvres on Tuesday at 2230 local time, according to Argentinian law firm Vega & Co.

The accident resulted in "huge damage" to conveyor belts, gangway and container cabin with one person inside placed over the gangway, said Alejandro Vega, partner with Vega & Co.

Apparently, the cause was the pilot," he told TradeWinds in an email.

Vega said pilots can limit their accident liability to $45,000 or $50,000.

"Coastguard, service boats and ambulance are services working in the area, trying to rescue the worker," he added.

According to latest information, there are no casualties and all workers that fell into the water were rescued, Vega said.

The vessel was fixed to take on about 27,000 metric tonnes of soybean meal and about 24,000 metric tonnes of maize for delivery to Oman and Saudi Arabia.

The ship is owned by Centrans Ocean Shipping Logistics of China and was built by Jingling Shipyard in Jiangsu, China, according to Vessels Value.
