The US Coast Guard airlifted a crew member off a car carrier off the Washington state coast Friday morning.
The agency said watchstanders responded to reports of a 29-year-old Ukranian national suffering from severe abdominal pain 21,020-dwt Garnet Leader (built 2008) while the vessel was 25 miles west of Willapa Bay.
They said a shoreside doctor said the man, the ship's second engineer, needed to be hospitalized within 8 hours. The request came in at 5 a.m. The airlift was completed at 6:45 am.
Once on shore, the Warrenton Fire Department transported the man to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria, Oregon.
According to MarineTraffic.com, the ship is due in Portland tomorrow.
