Indian marines have anchored a drifting boxship that was hit by fire off Haldia last Thursday.
The team was winched on to Shreyas Shipping & Logistics' 1,118-teu SSL Kolkata (built 2007) by a naval helicopter to drop the starboard anchor.
Local media reported that the blaze had been extinguished on Monday.
The vessel has also been prepared for a possible towing operation.
All 22 crew abandoned ship after the fire broke out 55 miles offshore. It spread to at least 60 containers.
The Defence Wing of the Government of India said the chopper used 15,000 litres of water to help extinguish the flames.
Salvor Smit has inspected the vessel, which is upright and stationary, with no oil spill reported.
