A Viken Shipping tanker has been holed in a clash with a fishing vessel off New York.
The US Coast Guard (USCG) said the collision involving the loaded aframax Tofteviken (115,000 dwt, built 2005) occurred at sea on Saturday evening, nearly 30 miles south-east of Bridgehampton.
Tofteviken suffered a nine-metre gash along its port hull. There were no injuries reported to the crew.
The vessel "will remain anchored until the Coast Guard determines it's safe to continue into port after investigating and reviewing class reports," the USCG said.
USCG inspectors and investigators are probing the cause and assessing the damage to the hull to ensure appropriate repairs are completed.
The fishing vessel Polaris suffered damage to its bow and outrigger. There were seven people on board at the time of collision, with no report of injuries.
Tofteviken was transiting to New York while the trawler was heading back to its home port in Massachusetts after a night of fishing. It was able to return there safely.
The tanker was at anchor on Tuesday morning.
