Four navy ships have been deployed to prevent pollution after the 2,500-dwt live fish carrier Seikongen (built 2017) went down on Wednesday, the Latin American Herald Tribune reported.
The vessel suffered damage and began taking on water during loading.
The master informed authorities and ordered an evacuation of the 12-person crew.
The maritime governor of the city of Castro, Hector Aravena, told reporters efforts were being made to contain the spill.
An investigation has also begun.
The vessel is partially submerged in 10 metres of water, 200 metres from shore.
It is operated by CPT Empresas Maritimas of Chile.
