After 32 years, Luis Benito has left Lloyd’s Register for Hong Kong ship management giant Wallem.
Benito has been appointed Wallem’s business development & marketing director, reporting directly to group chief executive John Rowley, who previously had an eight-year spell at Lloyd’s Register.
“In his new role, Luis will be responsible for driving sustainable profitable revenue growth across the group,” Wallem said on Wednesday.
“He will work closely with Wallem’s ship management, SeaSafe, ship agency and commercial services businesses to deliver innovation, product management, marketing and sales strategies.”
The ship manager’s business development, marketing, brand and communications teams will report directly to Benito.
Rowley said he was “delighted” to welcome Benito aboard.
“Luis’ experience at Lloyd’s Register, his passion for innovation and service excellence, and the relationships he has built with key shipbuilders, shipowners, ship managers and related industry stakeholders, make him an ideal choice to drive the ongoing growth agenda at Wallem,” the CEO said.
Benito, who holds a degree in naval architecture and marine engineering from Spain’s Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, began his career with Lloyd’s Register as a surveyor assigned to shipyards in South Korea.
He would rise through the ranks to become the classification society’s country manager for South Korea, before moving on to senior management roles at its UK headquarters.
Benito returned to Asia in 2022 as Lloyd’s Register’s executive partner for strategic key customers in Tokyo.
