Greek tycoon Evangelos Marinakis has added to his new offshore vessel fleet in a deal with Norwegian investor Arne Blystad.
Shipping databases show the shipowner’s start-up Capital Offshore has acquired the 4,200-dwt platform supply vessel Songa Discoverer (built 2021) from Songa Offshore for an undisclosed sum.
The ship has now been delivered to Capital’s favoured PSV manager, Aurora Offshore.
VesselsValue assesses the ship as worth $34m, up from $22.5m two years ago.
The deal brings to seven the number of secondhand PSVs Capital now owns, the rest being acquired from Standard Supply in Norway.
There are also up to 12 PSV and multipurpose support vessels (MPSVs) on order in China.
Norway-based Aurora said it has been awarded full technical management of the newly renamed Ace Discoverer.
The Cyprus-flagged ship has a deck area of 900 square metres.
It was reported sold by Island Offshore to Blystad in 2022.
Clarksons listed the vessel as Songa Offshore’s only ship.
Aurora said: “The vessel has recently just completed a term contract in Canada with Atlantic Towing and is currently on the west coast of Norway completing some maintenance before heading back to the North Sea spot market.”
Aurora already has three other Capital PSVs under management.
Expanded management team
Last month, the Borealis Maritime-controlled manager recruited Stian-Rene Espeland as operations manager.
Espeland had been general manager at Green Sea Service for five years.
Before that, he was a master with Arctic Shipping for three years.
In June, TradeWinds reported that Marinakis had upped his bet on healthier offshore shipping markets with a landmark order in China.
Capital ordered four firm PSVs at Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding, with four options attached.
These are believed to be costing between $41m and $43m.
Two MPSVs followed at the same yard, with a reported price tag of $69m each.
TradeWinds revealed that Capital was set up in December to capitalise on the hot OSV sector following acquisitions worth $106m.
