Hong Kong ship manager Wallem has recruited maritime industry heavyweight Alastair Marsh to its board of directors.
The former chief executive of Lloyd’s Register has over 30 years’ experience working in senior positions within various businesses.
The qualified chartered accountant left the UK classification society in December 2020 after 14 years with the company five of which as CEO.
Marsh is credited with modernising Lloyd’s Register’s business during his tenure after taking over as chief executive from Richard Sadler in 2015.
He was said to have been “integral to the development and execution of the corporate strategy, with a particular focus on growth, digital transformation and customer interaction”.
When Marsh departed Lloyd’s Register, he told the class society’s magazine Horizons that he was “keen to remain within the maritime industry”.
He told the magazine that a few non-executive roles were under consideration, but he stressed that he would “keep his options open until the right opportunities came up”.
Marsh is a graduate in business studies & accounting from The University of Edinburgh and studied at The Wharton Business School.
“Over the years he has earned the respect of those within the industry and his experience and track record of delivering success will be invaluable in helping Wallem move forward,” said Wallem Group chairman Nigel Hill.
Marsh said he “felt privileged” to be able to join the board at Wallem Group at this exciting time for the maritime industry.
“It is a company steeped in history and has an enviable position as one of the oldest third-party ship management businesses in the world,” he said.
Wallem chief executive John-Kaare Aune described Marsh as an “exceptional business leader” and he said he look forward to working with him closely to continue the growth of Wallem.
