Turkish shipowner Aksoy Denizcilik is set for a huge profit as the company seeks a sale of one of its two bulkers.
Brokers said the 50,000-dwt Akson Sara (built 2001) arrived this week in Kwangyang, South Korea, where it is available for inspection.
TradeWinds could not obtain comment from Aksoy on reports that it is selling the Oshima Shipbuilding-constructed vessel.
Bulker prices have been under some pressure in the last few months, but Aksoy is still in a position to log a strong profit.
The company bought Akson Sara as Peregrine in April 2016 for just $2.6m. The ship was then due for special survey.
US-based Eagle Bulk Shipping reportedly sold a similar Japanese-built vessel, the 50,000-dwt Condor (built 2001) for $6.8m.
Aksoy’s other vessel is the IHI-built, 48,000-dwt bulker Akson Serin (built 2004).
It was purchased from Greek shipowner AM Nomikos as Astra for $8m in June 2017 and is likely worth more in today’s market.
The Turkish shipowner last sold a vessel in July 2012, when it offloaded 2,500-dwt maintenance and support vessel Remas (built 2011) to Micoperi of Italy for an undisclosed price.
