Denmark's DFDS has completed its EUR 950m ($1.1bn) takeover of Turkey's U.N. Ro-Ro earlier than expected.

It announced the deal in April and last month banked DKK 1bn ($160m) from a share issue to help pay for it.

The integration process is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

DFDS now owns 98.8% of the company.

"We are now ready to start the integration of U.N. Ro-Ro after having closed the transaction earlier than expected," said DFDS CEO Niels Smedegaard.

"The integration plan has been developed and completed in co-operation with our new colleagues. This collaboration has confirmed our excitement and belief in joining our networks to provide new opportunities for, not least, customers and employees."

UN Ro-Ro operates five freight ferry routes connecting Turkey with Italy and France, using 12 owned freight ferries.

It also owns terminals in Trieste and istanbul.

For 2018, revenue of EUR 240m and EBITDA of EUR 97m is expected. The company has 650 employees.

Competition approvals were gained from Turkey, Austria and Germany, as well as Italian authorities in relation to the transfer of the Trieste terminal as a strategic asset.

U.N. Ro-Ro's "very competent and experienced" management team will continue under the leadership of Selcuk Boztepe, its CEO.

He will become head of a new Mediterranean business unit for DFDS.

Synergies will be pursued in sales, networks, branding, IT, terminals, finance, procurement and HR.
