Richard Fulford-Smith’s Affinity (Shipping) has recruited Norwegian shipbroking veteran Jan Egil Roald as part of an expansion in Norway.

Former Platou and Arctic Shipping man Roald will be joined in Affinity's Oslo office by newbuilding broker Petter C Arentz, who is relocating from London.

“Petter and I had known each other since we were 11 or 12 years old and have worked together for 20 years. We thought this was a nice thing to do”, Roald said.

Roald started with RS Platou Shipbrokers in 1990 and progressed to be a partner and later a senior partner of the private Norwegian company, which merged with Clarksons in 2015.

He joined sale and purchase specialist Arctic in 2017.

Arentz was also with Platou before moving to Affinity when its London-based operation was split off after its combination with Clarksons.

Affinity already has two offshore brokers in Oslo and Roald does not rule out more recruitment in Norway.

Fulford-Smith started Affinity in London 2014 and the firm now employs around 100 people in most shipping segments.

It also has offices in Beijing, Seoul, Singapore, Hong Kong, Houston, Lima, Santiago, Montevideo and Australia.
