Greek shipowner Maran Gas Maritime is on the brink of inking in two LNG carrier options at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea.

Industry sources said Maran Gas is committed to confirming the two 160,000-cbm vessels but has yet to sign the contracts on them.

The vessels, which are due for delivery in 2015, will give Maran Gas seven vessels at DSME. The John Angelicoussis-controlled company also has four 164,000-cbm LNG carriers on order at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.

The additional vessels will bring Maran Gas into line with John Fredriksen’s Golar LNG on straight LNG carriers, although the Norwegian player has an additional two floating storage and regasification units to add to its total.
