Reederei Nord has sold a third panamax bulker at a higher price than it secured for two sisterships earlier this year.

Sources say the Hyundai Samho built 75,000-dwt Nordems (built 2001) has sold to a Chinese buyer for $5m, which is in excess of expectations.

In April this year, Reederei Nord sold the 75,000-dwt Nordrheine (built 2001) to Primebulk of Greece for $3.9m.

The value of such ships has increased since then and in July another sister Nordweser (built 2001) was sold to a Ukraine based owner for $4.4m.

Now Reederei Nord has disposed of a third vessel from the series, the Nordems for $5m.

The price is in line with the $5.1m achieved for the Kanasashi-built 75,000-dwt Mission Hills (built 2001), which sold for $5.1m, also to Chinese interests.

Reederei Nord, controlled by the family of the late Klaus Oldendorff, is left with one panamax bulker, the Nordelbe (built 2001) which is expected to be sold soon.

Overall, its fleet stands at 47 ships, 12 of which are bulkers. Nine are handysize, including a newbuilding from Zhejiang Ouhua Shipbuilding Co in China.

The company has 11 containerships on order in China, two long range-two (LR2) tankers at Samsung Heavy Industries and two at Sumitomo Heavy Industries plus two aframax tankers, also at Sumitomo.
