Washington State Ferries (WSF) has offloaded its oldest ferry for a new service in the Caribbean.
The US state owner said the 2,000-gt Evergreen State (built 1954) has gone to Jones Broadcasting for $300,000.
It will start a new life in the protected waters of the southern Caribbean.
"The Evergreen State is a special ferry," said WSF chief of staff Elizabeth Kosa.
"It was the first vessel custom-built for Washington State Ferries in 1954. She served our customers well for six decades, but it is important that she is sold so we can free up dock space and focus maintenance on our current fleet."
The 87-car ferry features World War II surplus drive motors. It was decommissioned last year.
The new owner will tow the vessel from the Pacific Northwest to Grenada when the weather improves, probably in early summer, WSF said.
Another elderly WSF vessel, the 500-gt Hiyu (built 1967), was sold earlier this month to a local business owner who intends to use it as a floating entertainment venue on Lake Union.
