Braemar Shipping Services has recruited old boy Ben Chesney to boost its tanker operations in Singapore.
Chesney has been chartering officer at Idan Ofer's Eastern Pacific Shipping since leaving Braemar in 2015 following the merger with ACM Shipping. He had been there eight years, working in tankers.
The UK shipbroking group's new chief executive James Gundy told TradeWinds Chesney wanted a return to the shipbroking side of the business.
"His first port of call was to call his old colleague Vaughan English, who runs the Singapore office, and we are of course delighted," Gundy added.
Gundy described the move as a "big hire" in an active Asian tanker market.
Chesney joins the crude desk. He has been responsible for securing employment for Eastern Pacific's tanker fleet, specifically aframaxes.
Chesney has also monitored and executed forward freight agreement trades on relevant routes and performed ongoing market analysis in order to win the best returns for the company.
Expansion continues
Gundy was announced as Braemar's new CEO last week following the retirement of James Kidwell in 2019.
Singapore managing director English was also recruited from Eastern Pacific in May.
He started his career in Melbourne with rival broker Clarksons in the tanker department, before moving onto Singapore, where he has worked for 20 years.
English left Clarksons for a period as chartering manager with Teekay, before spending the last 14 years at Eastern Pacific.
He started in tankers and then managed the dry cargo, car carrier and boxship operations there, including dual-fuel projects.
