Schoeller Group-controlled shipbroker Hanse Bereederung has recruited Howe Robinson Partners' senior partner Alexander Bock to drive growth in sale-and-purchase operations.

The Hamburg containership and bulker specialist said Bock has joined as a director to expand the domestic operations in booming markets.

Bock's remit is to widen Hanse's S&P services in a competitive sector and to attract new business alongside existing clients covered by sister outfit Columbia Shipmanagement's technical and commercial management.

"Joining a well-known shipbroker with ambitious plans to expand its S&P activities was a great opportunity. I’m very excited about contributing to Hanse’s ongoing success in the coming years," Bock said.

Hanse has a team of eight staff, including Alex Karydis, director of chartering and S&P in Greece.

Hanse told TradeWinds in March it was targeting expansion in bulkers and container pools.

Zankl delighted

"We’re delighted to welcome Alexander, who has a wealth of shipping industry experience, knowledge and expertise — which will undoubtedly prove invaluable to our business," said Michael Zankl, the broker's managing director of chartering and S&P.

"As well as knowing this sector inside out, Alexander has an impressive background in senior management and leadership."

Bock was based in Hamburg with Howe Robinson from 2015.

Before that he was managing director at ICAP, the global interdealer broker, for seven years.

ICAP's shipping businesses merged with Howe Robinson in 2015 to become Howe Robinson Partners.

From 2003 to 2007, Bock was a broker at Frachtcontor Junge, the shipbroker and port agent.

Established in 1976, Hanse is an in-house broker for Cyprus-based Schoeller, as well as handling third-party business.
