The ship finance team of the Barry Rogliano Salles (BRS) Group has signed on a new recruit in Athens.
Petros Kefalonitis, a former finance executive with Greek tanker and bulker owner Super-Eco Management, joined the French shipbroker this month.
“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Ship Finance at BRS Shipbrokers!” Kefalonitis posted on his LinkedIn page on Thursday.
He told TradeWinds he will be based in Athens and Paris, with a view to offering ship finance services to clients — on a stand-alone basis and in combination with the brokerage’s sale-and-purchase and newbuilding brokers in the Greek capital.
Before Super-Eco Management and RMK, Kefalonitis worked as a financial and commercial analyst at Greek-controlled Lomar Shipping in London.
He brings more than 10 years’ experience in ship finance and has a wealth of expertise in managing successful maritime transactions. He has been involved in originating and structuring more than $500m in debt and equity deals.
Kefalonitis’ move to BRS comes less than two years after he had joined RMK Maritime.
“My relationship with RMK remains excellent,” Kefalonitis told TradeWinds.
The London-based alternative shipping financier said in July 2021 that Kefalonitis would spearhead a new, borrower-focused Greek office as part of its expansion in the world’s biggest shipowning hub.
RMK managers commented that the Greek market continued to be “very important” for the company.
“We have recruited Michael Burgess as an Associate Director to be the main contact for our Greek clients on both Ascension Finance and RMK Maritime business,” the company added.
Ascension is RMK's first lien loan business.
Burgess, who is of Greek descent and speaks Greek fluently, is said to be spend his time between Athens and London to grow the company's business in the Greek capital.
