Martin Rowe, managing director of Clarksons Platou Asia, is set to leave Hong Kong and return to the UK later this year.

The multilingual Rowe is said to be taking up a position on the sale-and-purchase desk in London at parent Clarksons. The veteran of the Hong Kong broking scene for over 20 years spent the bulk of those with Clarksons, where he joined in 2006.

“My fellow senior director and S&P colleague of almost two decades Marco Chan will be assuming day-to-day responsibility for the HK office after my departure,” Rowe told TradeWinds in a brief statement.

“At the same time, continuing as our most senior director in Greater China will be my colleague Cheng Yu Wang, managing director up in Shanghai.”

Clarksons Platou Asia’s Hong Kong office specialises in sale and purchase as well as projects, focusing mainly on the local, Greater China and Far East markets.

In addition to its broking team in Hong Kong, Clarksons’ operation in Asia includes offices in Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai.

Clarksons, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange, has yet to make any formal announcement about the changes in Hong Kong.

The UK shipbroker’s London-based public relations team did not respond to TradeWinds' request for comment.

Clarksons, the world's largest shipbroker, has 1,600 employees across a footprint spanning 23 countries.
