UK giant Clarksons has added 22 new trainee brokers to its lineup around the globe.
The London-listed group, the world’s biggest shipbroker, said the recruits have joined its global trainee broker programme at offices in Dubai, Houston, London, New Delhi, Oslo, Singapore, Shanghai and Tokyo.
Last month, all 22 were brought together for the first week of training in London.
This involved what the brokerage called a “comprehensive induction” designed to equip the new faces with key knowledge, guidance and the foundations to prepare and support them in their roles.
“The week also provides the opportunity for trainees to meet and spend time together and form valuable connections as a cohort,” Clarksons said.
“The induction week is an invaluable experience, bringing the trainees to the same level of knowledge, regardless of any prior background or experience in the shipping industry,” it added.
The idea is to give the recruits a solid understanding of what it means to be a trainee broker at Clarksons, as well as an introduction to the various shipping markets, the importance of effective networking and staying informed about current affairs, news and events impacting market segments.
“We wish the trainees the best as they embark on the start of an exciting career with Clarksons, and are looking forward to following their journeys with the company. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for them,” the London-headquartered shop said.
Last month, Clarksons unveiled the results of its latest dry cargo diploma session in London, with participants battling to impress the London shop’s judges.
The event, now in its 12th year, attracted a record 30 attendees at Commodity Quay in London.
The week-long programme is available to Clarksons employees and clients who are in the early stages of their careers.
This year, staff came from the company’s Athens, London, New York, Oslo, Rio and Singapore offices.
There were also 20 client representatives who had travelled over from Europe, China, Australia, the US and Brazil.
