Fearnleys has a new presence in Brazil after hiring three dry cargo shipbrokers from Braemar ACM Shipbroking, which will beef up the shop’s capesize chartering activities in the South Atlantic.

The Norwegian shipbroking group told TradeWinds it has also made a new hire from Braemar who will join the Fearnleys office in Dubai.

Brokers Bruno Miranda, Thiago Alves and Rafael Martins will join Fearnleys from Braemar Sao Paulo, where Fearnleys will establish a new office. Miranda and Alves worked previously in chartering for Brazilian mining giant Vale.

“They bring an outstanding reputation in the market and have been a major player in controlling the South Atlantic market for capes,” Fearnleys said in a statement to TradeWinds.

“Alongside, they have wide access to the Brazilian market, covering that industry on all segments. Their combined skills, experience and network make this a strong add-on to our already exceptional dry bulk team.”

Capesize broker Petric Goulart will join Fearnleys in Dubai from Braemar in Geneva. Goulart has worked previously for dry cargo shipbroker Ifchor and Vale.

The group said it is pleased with the opportunity to expand into Brazil, “a region where we firmly believe in the potential of its massive mining industry”.

“Bringing in brokers like Petric, Bruno, Thiago and Rafael reaffirms our growth ambitions,” the group said.

Meanwhile, Braemar has suffered another key departure from its capesize broking staff. Tiago Thomaz has left his position as head of dry cargo in Singapore and will join Oldendorff in Brazil.
